Green Lacewing (Larva)

Natural Habitat

Gardens, agricultural fields, meadows, and forests where aphids are present.

Diet & Feeding

Voracious predators that eat aphids, mealybugs, scale insects, mites, and insect eggs; often called 'aphid lions'.

Behavior Patterns

Larvae are active hunters with sickle-shaped mandibles used to pierce prey and suck out body fluids. Some species camouflage themselves with debris or the carcasses of their prey. They undergo complete metamorphosis.

Risks & Benefits

Highly beneficial to the ecosystem and gardeners as biological pest control. They are harmless to humans, though they may occasionally give a tiny, non-venomous 'nip' if handled.
