Natural Habitat

Behavior Patterns
Larvae are aquatic or semi-aquatic and can survive in very low oxygen environments. They often remain submerged in slime before pupating and emerging as adult flies.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to humans and do not bite. They represent a nuisance in homes, and while they help break down organic sludge, their presence in large numbers can indicate plumbing issues or hygiene concerns.
