Natural Habitat
Often found in homes, specifically in dark, undisturbed areas like closets, attics, or under furniture where natural fibers are stored.
Diet & Feeding
They feed on keratin-containing animal products, including wool, silk, fur, feathers, hair, and sometimes leather or soiled synthetic fabrics.
Behavior Patterns
The larva spins a protective silken tube or 'case' that it carries with it as it feeds. It undergoes a complete metamorphosis, eventually pupating inside the case to become a small, buff-colored moth.
Risks & Benefits
They are destructive pests that can cause significant permanent damage to clothing, carpets, and upholstery. They pose no direct health risk to humans but can result in financial loss through property damage.
