Drain Fly Larva
Scientific Name: Psychodidae family (e.g., Clogmia albipunctata)
Order & Family: Order: Diptera; Family: Psychodidae
Size: 4 mm to 10 mm in length

Natural Habitat
Moist environments with organic buildup, such as drains, sewage pipes, septic tanks, and wet compost.
Diet & Feeding
Decomposing organic matter, algae, bacteria, and fungi (biofilm) found inside plumbing and moist areas.
Behavior Patterns
The larvae live within the gelatinous film of drains; they are remarkably resilient to soap and hot water. They undergo complete metamorphosis into small, fuzzy, moth-like flies.
Risks & Benefits
They do not bite and are not typically known to transmit diseases to humans. While they help break down organic sludge, their presence usually indicates a hygiene or plumbing issue (clogs/buildup) that requires cleaning.
