Carpet beetle larvae occur indoors in carpets, upholstered furniture, closets, and lint-filled cracks; adults often visit flowers and windows.

Larvae consume keratin-rich materials such as wool, fur, feathers, hair, dead insects, and natural-fiber textiles; adults feed mainly on pollen and nectar.

Larvae are slow-moving, bristly, and hide in dark undisturbed areas, sometimes leaving shed skins. Development may take months to over a year, depending on temperature and food.

They do not bite or transmit disease, but larval hairs can irritate skin and infestations can damage clothing, carpets, and taxidermy. They help recycle animal fibers outdoors.
