Plaster Bagworm

Scientific Name: Phereoeca utericella

Order & Family: Lepidoptera: Tineidae

Size: 8-13 mm (0.3-0.5 inches)

Plaster Bagworm

Natural Habitat

Commonly found inside homes on walls, under furniture, and in garages or sheds, particularly in humid climates.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae feed on spider webs, wool, human hair, and silk, as well as organic lint and debris.

Behavior Patterns

The larva constructs a silken case covered in sand, dust, and lint for protection. It can move the case by poking its head out of either end. It undergoes metamorphosis inside this case.

Risks & Benefits

Harmless to humans as they do not bite or sting. However, they can be considered a minor nuisance or household pest because they may feed on natural fiber fabrics and leave unsightly cases on walls.
