Household Casebearer

Natural Habitat

Typically found indoors on walls, in corners, or on floors (especially in humid environments like bathrooms or garages); also found outdoors on protected structural surfaces.

Diet & Feeding

The larva feeds on old spider webs (and the insect remains caught in them), hair, wool, lint, and other organic debris containing keratin.

Behavior Patterns

The larva constructs a protective case out of silk and disguises it with sand, soil, insect parts, paints, and fibers from its environment. It carries this case around while feeding and retreats inside when threatened. It eventually pupates inside the case.

Risks & Benefits

Generally considered a minor nuisance pest rather than harmful. They do not bite or sting. However, in large numbers, they may feed on wool clothing or rugs similar to clothes moths.
