Natural Habitat

Behavior Patterns
They are famous for swimming upside down on their backs using long, oar-like hind legs. They are attracted to light and can fly, which often leads them to land in swimming pools.

They can deliver a painful bite if handled or accidentally pressed against skin (often called 'water bees' or 'water wasps'), similar to a bee sting but non-venomous to humans. Beneficial as they eat mosquito larvae.
