Homes, museums, closets, and other dry indoor areas containing natural fibers or stored products. Adults often occur around flowers and windows.

Larvae feed on wool, fur, feathers, silk, dead insects, and other keratin-rich materials. Adults primarily consume pollen and nectar.

Larvae are hairy, banded, and may curl up when disturbed; they hide in dark, undisturbed areas and molt repeatedly before pupating. Adults are small, oval, and often mottled yellow, brown, and white.

Larvae can damage clothing, carpets, taxidermy, and museum specimens; their shed hairs may irritate skin or airways. Adults pollinate flowers, and larvae help recycle animal-derived organic matter.
