Diet & Feeding

Broad range of dried materials including flour, bread, spices, tea, tobacco, wool, leather, and even some medications.

Behavior Patterns

Adults are active flyers and are attracted to light. Females can lay up to 75 eggs on food sources; larvae then tunnel through the material as they feed and grow.

Risks & Benefits

Significant pest of stored products that causes food spoilage and economic damage; however, they pose no direct health hazard through bites or stings.
