Natural Habitat

Warm, damp sites such as sewers, basements, drains, utility rooms, and building wall voids; it may enter homes while foraging.

Diet & Feeding

An omnivorous scavenger that consumes food scraps, starches, grease, decaying organic matter, and occasionally paper or fabric residues.

Behavior Patterns

Mostly nocturnal, fast-moving, and strongly attracted to warmth and moisture. Adults have fully developed wings and may fly or glide; females carry egg cases that contain multiple nymphs.

Risks & Benefits

Can mechanically spread bacteria and contaminate food, while shed skins and feces may trigger allergies or asthma. It contributes modestly to decomposition outdoors but is generally considered a household pest.
