The larva constructs a protective spindle-shaped case from silk and environmental debris, which it carries while crawling in a manner similar to a slug. It can emerge from either end of the case.

They do not bite or sting humans. They are considered household pests as their feeding can damage natural fiber fabrics and carpets.
