- Size
- About 0.5–2 mm long; the photographed individuals appear near the lower end of this range.
Natural Habitat
Moist, sheltered places such as books, fabrics, stored goods, plant material, and household crevices. They often occur where mold or high humidity is present.
Diet & Feeding
Feed mainly on mold, fungi, algae, microscopic organic debris, and sometimes starch-based residues. They do not typically bite or suck blood.
Behavior Patterns
Small, pale, soft-bodied insects that move slowly among fibers and grooves; many reproduce rapidly under warm, humid conditions. Some indoor species are wingless and may be mistaken for mites.

Generally harmless to people, pets, and property, though large populations can contaminate stored food or indicate excess moisture and mold. They contribute modestly to decomposition outdoors.
