Thrips (Tube-tailed Thrips)

Natural Habitat

Commonly found on flowers, leaves, and fungi. They are often inadvertently brought indoors on clothing or via open windows.

Diet & Feeding

Opportunistic feeders; many species feed on fungal spores or plant juices, while some are predatory on smaller mites or other thrips.

Behavior Patterns

They are active flyers but can also be dispersed by wind. They often gather in large numbers during hot, dry weather and are attracted to light-colored surfaces/clothing.

Risks & Benefits

Generally harmless to humans and do not transmit disease; however, they may occasionally cause minor, temporary irritation if they land on skin and attempt to 'probe' or bite. In ecosystems, some are beneficial predators of pests, while others can be minor garden pests.
