Natural Habitat

Found indoors globally, primarily in mattresses, furniture, carpets, and household dust where humidity is high.

Diet & Feeding

Detritivorous; they primarily feed on flakes of dead human and animal skin (dander) shed in the environment.

Behavior Patterns

They thrive in dark, warm, and humid environments (above 50% relative humidity). They do not bite but live and breed within fibrous materials.

Risks & Benefits

Risk: Major source of indoor allergens. Their droppings and body parts can trigger asthma, eczema, and allergic rhinitis in sensitive individuals. Benefit: None to humans; they act as decomposers of organic matter in the micro-ecosystem.
