Natural Habitat

Homes, especially carpets, upholstery, closets, and areas containing natural fibers or dead insects. Adults often occur near windows and flowers.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae feed on wool, fur, feathers, hair, silk, lint, and dried insects; adults mainly consume pollen and nectar. The pictured specimen appears damaged and mixed with fibers, so identification is approximate.

Behavior Patterns

Larvae are concealed, slow-moving scavengers that molt repeatedly and leave shed skins or irregular holes in fabrics. Adults are mobile and commonly enter buildings from outdoors.

Risks & Benefits

Larvae can damage clothing, carpets, taxidermy, and other animal-derived materials; their hairs may irritate skin or airways. Adults pollinate flowers and help recycle dead organic matter.
