Natural Habitat
Found widely across North America and Eurasia; commonly nests in soil, under stones, or in the foundations and walls of buildings.
Diet & Feeding
Omnivorous; they feed on nectar, seeds, and small insects. They are well known for 'farming' aphids for their sugary honeydew secretions.
Behavior Patterns
Highly social insects living in complex colonies. They are known for foraging along established chemical trails and being active during the day. Mating flights ('flying ant day') usually occur in mid to late summer.
