Natural Habitat

Dark, damp places such as basements, crawl spaces, caves, and areas beneath logs or debris. Often enters buildings seeking moisture.

Diet & Feeding

Mostly scavenges on fungi, plant material, insects, and organic debris. It may occasionally nibble fabrics or stored materials but does not bite people.

Behavior Patterns

Wingless and nocturnal, with extremely long antennae and powerful jumping legs. It hides by day and may jump unpredictably when disturbed; females lay eggs in moist soil or sheltered crevices.

Risks & Benefits

Generally harmless to humans and does not transmit important diseases. It helps recycle organic matter, though large indoor populations can be a nuisance and may damage delicate fabrics or paper.
