Natural Habitat

Typically found in urban areas, nesting in soil, rotting wood, or under stones; often invades kitchens and bathrooms in search of moisture and food.

Diet & Feeding

Omnivorous; they feed on sweets, meats, grease, fruits, and vegetable matter, as well as other insects and honeydew from aphids.

Behavior Patterns

Highly social insects with multiple queens per colony. They foraged in well-defined trails and are most active during the warmer months. They are known for being persistent once they find a food source.

Risks & Benefits

Generally considered a nuisance pest in homes. While they possess a small stinger, it is usually too small to affect humans. Ecologically, they act as decomposers and help control other small insect populations.
