Oleander Caterpillar
Scientific Name: Syntomeida epilais
Order & Family: Lepidoptera: Erebidae
Size: 30 to 40 mm (approximately 1.2 to 1.6 inches) in length.

Natural Habitat
Tropical and subtropical regions, specifically found on Oleander and Desert Rose plants in gardens and landscapes.
Diet & Feeding
The larvae feed strictly on the foliage of Oleander (Nerium oleander) and Desert Rose (Adenium obesum).
Behavior Patterns
They are gregarious in early stages, feeding together on the underside of leaves. They are highly active during the day and can completely defoliate a plant if left unchecked.
Risks & Benefits
They are major garden pests that cause significant aesthetic damage to ornamental plants. They are toxic to predators due to chemicals ingested from their host plants, but they do not typically sting humans; however, their hairs may cause skin irritation.
