Natural Habitat

Found on various host plants, including Fig trees (as seen in the image), Tree of Heaven, maples, grapes, and fruit trees.

Diet & Feeding

Phloem feeders that use piercing-sucking mouthparts to drink sap from plant stems and leaves.

Behavior Patterns

Nymphs hatch in spring and crawl onto plants to feed. They are strong jumpers and often cluster on the undersides of leaves or along stems. They go through four nymphal stages before maturing into winged adults.

Risks & Benefits

Extremely invasive and a major agricultural pest. They weaken plants by depleting sap and excrete 'honeydew' which promotes black sooty mold growth, damaging crops and attracting stinging insects.
