Diet & Feeding
Nymphs and adults feed on a wide variety of plants, including fruits, vegetables, and ornamental trees, by sucking out plant juices with their needle-like mouthparts.
Behavior Patterns
Known for releasing a pungent, foul-smelling liquid from glands on their thorax as a defense mechanism when threatened or crushed. They are active from spring through fall and overwinter as adults in leaf litter or under bark.
Risks & Benefits
Considered a significant agricultural pest that can damage crops and cause fruit deformation. They do not bite or sting humans and represent an important food source for birds and predatory insects.
