Natural Habitat

Indoor environments such as homes, warehouses, and museums, as well as outdoor nests of birds or rodents.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae consume natural fibers (wool, silk, fur), dead insects, dried pet food, and hair. Adults primarily feed on flower pollen and nectar.

Behavior Patterns

They are known for their slow-moving larvae nicknamed 'woolly bears' due to their bristles. Adults are attracted to light and are often seen near windows during spring.

Risks & Benefits

They are a significant domestic pest that can damage clothing, carpets, and upholstery. While they do not bite humans, the larval hairs can cause allergic skin reactions (dermatitis) in some people.
