Diet & Feeding

Stored products including flour, cereal, dry pet food, spices, books (binding glue), and dried plant material.

Behavior Patterns

Adults are active fliers and are attracted to light. They reproduce quickly in food sources, where larvae do the majority of the damage by tunneling through materials.

Risks & Benefits

They are significant pantry pests that cause economic loss by contaminating food. They do not bite or sting humans and pose no direct health risk other than food spoilage.
