Behavior Patterns

Diurnal predator known for its characteristic 'cog-wheel' or 'crest' on its thorax. They are slow-moving and generally solitary, using a long proboscis to hunt and feed. They undergo a simple metamorphosis with one generation per year.

Risks & Benefits

Extremely beneficial to ecosystems and gardens as a natural pest controller. However, they can deliver an extremely painful, though not medically significant, bite if handled or provoked, known to feel worse than a hornet sting.
