Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding
Keratin-rich animal fibers including wool, silk, fur, feathers, and lint. They do not eat synthetic fabrics unless blended with natural fibers.
Behavior Patterns
Larvae are photophobic (avoid light) and often spin silken tubes or cases (case-bearing variety) to protect themselves while feeding. The life cycle can range from two months to several years depending on temperature and food quality.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include significant economic damage to household textiles, clothing, and upholstered furniture. They pose no direct health risk to humans. Benefits are limited to ecological recycling of animal remains in nature.
