Wolf Spider

Natural Habitat

Found in a wide variety of habitats including grasslands, forests, gardens, and near homes. They often seek shelter under leaf litter, rocks, or in burrows.

Diet & Feeding

Carnivorous; they are ground-dwelling hunters that primarily eat insects, other spiders, and small invertebrates.

Behavior Patterns

Unlike many spiders, they do not spin webs to catch prey. They are agile runners and use their keen eyesight to hunt. Females are known for carrying their egg sacs attached to their spinnerets and later carrying their spiderlings on their backs.

Risks & Benefits

Benefits the ecosystem by controlling pest insect populations. While they are venomous and can bite if threatened or handled, their bite is generally not medically significant for humans, usually causing only minor pain or swelling.
