Omnivorous scavengers that consume crumbs, grease, starches, sweets, pet food, and occasionally paper or household materials.

Behavior Patterns

Primarily nocturnal and fast-moving; they hide in cracks by day and reproduce rapidly. Females carry a capsule (ootheca) until shortly before hatching.

Risks & Benefits

They can contaminate food and surfaces and spread allergens associated with asthma and dermatitis; they provide little household benefit, though they are decomposers outdoors.
