German cockroach

Warm, humid indoor areas, especially kitchens, bathrooms, appliance interiors, and wall voids. It commonly lives near food, water, and shelter.

An opportunistic omnivore that eats crumbs, starches, grease, pet food, refuse, and occasionally glue or other organic materials.

Mostly nocturnal, fast-running, and strongly attracted to warmth and moisture. Females carry egg cases until shortly before hatching, allowing populations to increase rapidly indoors.

Can contaminate food and surfaces with pathogens and allergens; shed skins and feces may worsen asthma and allergies. It has little meaningful household benefit, though it serves as prey for various predators outdoors.
