Springtail

Moist soil, leaf litter, compost, moss, and decaying vegetation; often gathers around water or damp surfaces.

Feeds mainly on fungi, algae, bacteria, decaying plant matter, and microscopic organic debris.

Usually wingless and highly moisture-dependent, with a forked furcula for jumping when disturbed. They cluster in damp habitats and reproduce by laying eggs in moist substrate.

Harmless to people, pets, and buildings; they do not bite or sting. They aid decomposition and nutrient cycling, though large indoor gatherings indicate excess moisture.
