Masked hunter (assassin bug) nymph

Dry, sheltered indoor areas such as wall voids, attics, basements, and behind furniture; also occurs outdoors under bark and debris.

Predatory, feeding on small insects and arthropods, including flies, bed bugs, and cockroaches. It pierces prey with a beak and sucks out fluids.

Nymphs camouflage themselves by coating their bodies with dust and debris; adults are dark brown to black and often nocturnal. They develop through gradual metamorphosis.

Helpful indoors because they consume pest insects. They are not aggressive, but can deliver a painful defensive bite if handled; the bite is not considered medically dangerous.
