Indoors, especially carpets, upholstered furniture, closets, and dark, undisturbed areas; also found outdoors on flowers.

Larvae consume keratin-rich materials such as wool, fur, feathers, hair, and dead insects. Adults mainly feed on pollen and nectar and do not damage fabrics.

Larvae are brown, bristly, and slow-moving, often leaving shed skins; they avoid light and may wander on walls when seeking pupation sites. Adults are small, oval, and patterned with white, brown, and yellow scales.

Larvae can damage natural-fiber clothing, carpets, and taxidermy, while their hairs may irritate sensitive skin or airways. They recycle animal debris outdoors and are harmless to people, pets, and building structures.
