Natural Habitat

Indoor environments, particularly pantries, kitchens, and areas where dried organic materials are stored.

Diet & Feeding

Polyphagous; they feed on a wide range of dried plant products including spices, flour, cereal, tobacco, dried fruit, seeds, and even some non-food items like leather or books.

Behavior Patterns

Adults are active flyers and are most common in the early evening. They exhibit a 'play dead' behavior when disturbed. Their life cycle from egg to adult takes approximately 6-8 weeks under ideal warm conditions.

Risks & Benefits

They are significant pantry pests that cause economic damage by contaminating food stores with larvae, cocoons, and waste. They do not bite or sting humans and serve no significant benefit to the indoor ecosystem.
