Natural Habitat

Deciduous woodlands, gardens, parks, and scrubland throughout Europe and parts of Asia and North America.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae feed on the leaves of various deciduous trees and shrubs, including oak, willow, birch, and hawthorn.

Behavior Patterns

The larvae are active in spring and early summer. They are often found resting on the underside of leaves or on twigs where their brown, patterned coloring provides camouflage. They pupate in a cocoon underground.

Risks & Benefits

While they can cause minor defoliation of host trees, they are generally not considered major pests and serve as a food source for birds and other insectivores.
