Natural Habitat

Pantries, kitchen cupboards, and warehouses where stored food is kept.

Diet & Feeding

Feeds on dry grains, seeds, nuts, chocolate, dried fruits, flour, and cereal products.

Behavior Patterns

Larvae weave silk webs into their food source as they feed, which often results in clumping of food particles. They eventually crawl away from the food source to pupate in cracks or crevices.

Risks & Benefits

They are a common household pest that causes food contamination and spoilage via webbing and frass (waste). They pose no direct physical health risk to humans but can be a nuisance and cause economic loss through discarded food.
