Natural Habitat

Found in gardens, crops, and landscapes, often on plants infested with aphids. Sometimes found on outdoor surfaces or walls.

Diet & Feeding

Highly predatory. Primarily eats aphids, but also consumes spider mites, mealybugs, and small caterpillars using curved mandibles to suck out body fluids.

Behavior Patterns

Larvae are known as 'trash bugs' because they stack the carcasses of their prey and other debris on their backs for camouflage. They are active hunters with a three-stage larval development before pupating in a silken cocoon.

Risks & Benefits

Highly beneficial as biological pest control for gardens. While they may occasionally deliver a minor, non-venomous bite to humans if handled, they pose no health risk and are considered organic allies.
