Natural Habitat
Mosquitoes are found worldwide in various habitats, especially near stagnant water sources such as ponds, marshes, ditches, and artificial containers, where they lay their eggs.
Diet & Feeding
Female mosquitoes feed on blood from humans and other animals. Both male and female mosquitoes also feed on nectar and plant juices.
Behavior Patterns
Mosquitoes are most active during dawn and dusk. Only female mosquitoes bite, as they need blood meals for egg development. They are attracted to carbon dioxide, body heat, and certain chemicals present on skin.
Risks & Benefits
Risks: Mosquitoes are significant vectors of diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, Zika virus, West Nile virus, and chikungunya. Their bites cause itchy welts. Benefits: Larvae are a food source for aquatic animals; adults pollinate some plants.
