Black slug

Moist, shaded gardens, lawns, leaf litter, woodlands, and urban pavement after rain or at night.

Consumes fungi, algae, decaying vegetation, seedlings, and living leaves; it scrapes food with a rasping radula.

A nocturnal, moisture-dependent terrestrial gastropod that shelters in soil, crevices, or debris during dry conditions. It is hermaphroditic and lays clusters of eggs in damp soil or sheltered sites.

Generally harmless to people and does not bite or sting. It decomposes organic matter and provides prey for birds, amphibians, mammals, and predatory invertebrates, but can damage garden plants.
