Keratin-rich animal materials including wool, fur, feathers, hair, and upholstery fabrics.

The larvae create a protective silk case covered in fragments of the material they are eating, which they carry as they move; they prefer dark, undisturbed areas.

Primary risk is significant damage to clothing, carpets, and heritage textiles; no direct health risk to humans but considered a major household pest.
