Dark, undisturbed indoor areas such as closets, carpets, upholstered furniture, wall gaps, and stored textiles.

Larvae feed on keratin-containing materials, including wool, fur, feathers, hair, and natural-fiber debris; adults do not feed and are not fabric-damaging.

The larva lives inside a fibrous, camouflaged case and carries it while feeding, pupating, and seeking sheltered sites. Adults are small, pale moths that avoid light; infestations develop slowly in dark, humid, undisturbed areas.

Harmless to people and pets, but larvae can damage woolens, carpets, furs, and other animal-derived textiles. They contribute modestly to decomposition of keratin-based organic material.
