Orb-weaver spider (likely a spotted orb-weaver)

Gardens, woodland edges, porches, and other areas where it can anchor a circular web. Most are active outdoors at night and hide nearby during daylight.

Carnivorous, capturing flies, moths, mosquitoes, and other flying insects in sticky orb webs. It immobilizes prey with silk and consumes it externally digested.

Builds or repairs an orb-shaped web, often overnight, and waits at its center or nearby for vibrations. Adults generally reproduce seasonally; many temperate species die after laying eggs.

Generally harmless to humans and not aggressive; bites are rare and usually cause only mild, localized irritation. Beneficial as a predator of nuisance and pest insects.
