Wheel bug (juvenile)

Found on trees, shrubs, gardens, and building exteriors across much of North America, especially in wooded or residential areas.

Predatory; nymphs and adults pierce caterpillars, beetles, aphids, and other insects with a stout beak, liquefying and sucking their tissues.

Nymphs are wingless and often reddish-brown with long legs and antennae; they molt through several stages before becoming adults. They are generally solitary and may be active during the day.

Beneficial predators that help suppress many garden and forest pests. They can deliver a painful defensive bite if handled, but are not medically dangerous and do not normally seek human contact.
