Green inchworm (looper caterpillar)

Vegetation, shrubs, trees, and nearby sheltered surfaces in gardens, forests, and urban areas.

Chews leaves and occasionally buds or flowers; most species feed on a limited range of host plants.

Moves with a characteristic looping gait because it has reduced abdominal prolegs. Mature larvae drop or crawl to soil or leaf litter to pupate; adults are moths, often nocturnal.

Generally harmless to people and nonvenomous. It serves as prey for birds and parasitoids, though abundant larvae can damage ornamental plants or crops.
