Japanese Beetle

Gardens, farms, parks, and grasslands, particularly where turfgraas and various host plants are present.

Adults eat the foliage, flowers, and fruit of over 300 plant species (including roses, grapes, and hops), often skeletonizing leaves. Larvae (grubs) eat the roots of grasses.

Adults are active during the day, especially in warm, sunny weather, and often aggregate in large groups to feed and mate. They have a one-year life cycle involving underground larval stages during winter.

They are major invasive pests that cause significant economic damage to crops, ornamental plants, and turfgrass. They have no significant benefits to their non-native ecosystems.
