Likely Anna’s hummingbird

Gardens, parks, shrublands, and woodland edges, especially in western North America. It commonly visits flowering plants and feeders near human habitation.

Primarily flower nectar, supplemented with small insects and spiders. It captures insects by aerial hawking and gleans them from vegetation.

A territorial, highly maneuverable daytime flyer that hovers and performs steep courtship dives. It defends rich feeding patches and may remain year-round in mild regions.

Harmless to people and beneficial as a pollinator and insect predator. The identification is image-based; the dark head and reddish throat are consistent with a male Anna’s hummingbird.
