Damp environments such as leaf litter, under logs, stones, or in soil; often enters basements during rainy conditions.

Mostly detritivores, feeding on decaying organic matter, rotting wood, and occasionally soft plant tissues.

Slow-moving and nocturnal; they typically curl into a tight spiral as a defensive mechanism when threatened.

Generally harmless to humans but can emit a foul-smelling liquid that may irritate eyes or skin; ecologically beneficial as decomposers.
