Vegetable Weevil

Gardens, agricultural fields, pastures, and disturbed grassy or weed-covered areas.

Herbivorous; feeds on foliage, stems, and roots of various vegetables, crops, and weeds including carrots, tomatoes, potatoes, and brassicas.

Nighttime feeder that hides during the day under soil debris or foliage. Known to play dead (thanatosis) when disturbed. Females reproduce primarily through parthenogenesis.

Risks: Can be an agricultural and garden pest causing significant defoliation and root damage to host plants. Benefits: Serves as a food source for insectivorous birds, ground beetles, and spiders; poses no harm to humans or pets.
