Silverfish (likely firebrat)

Warm, humid indoor areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, attics, and spaces near heating appliances. They hide in cracks, wall voids, and beneath debris.

Feeds mainly on starches, sugars, book glue, paper, cardboard, fabrics, and occasionally crumbs or dead insects. It grazes on surface materials rather than biting people.

Nocturnal, fast-running, and wingless; it avoids light and can survive for long periods with little food. Firebrats prefer hotter conditions than silverfish and develop gradually through repeated molts.

Harmless to humans and does not transmit disease, but infestations can damage books, wallpaper, stored paper, and textiles. It is an occasional decomposer and predator of small organic debris, though indoor presence is generally considered a nuisance.
