Click Beetle (or generic Beetle)

Outdoors in vegetation, under tree bark, in leaf litter, soil, and decay. Frequently attracted to indoor lights at night.

Adults feed on plant juices, nectar, pollen, and decaying vegetation; larvae (wireworms) live in soil or rotting wood and feed on roots or dead organic matter.

Known for their unique mechanism to snap/click their thoracic joint to flip into the air when turned on their back to escape predators. Nocturnal and attracted to artificial light sources.

Harmless to humans as they do not bite or sting. Beneficial as decomposers in forested areas, though some larval wireworms can be minor garden pests.
