Ailanthus webworm moth

Gardens, urban areas, woodlands, and other places where tree-of-heaven or related plants grow, especially across the southern United States and Central America.

Caterpillars feed on leaves and shoots of mostly Simaroubaceae plants, including tree-of-heaven; adults drink flower nectar.

Adults are primarily nocturnal and rest with wings folded roof-like, exposing orange-red and black markings. Several generations may occur annually in warm climates.

Harmless to people and not medically significant. Larvae can damage host plants, while adults serve as minor pollinators and prey for other animals.
